Walker

This painting was from a challenge hosted by Karin Jurick. We were asked to paint 95% of our time from the reference photo and our canvas turned upside down. This was a very challenging exercise which helped me see thing in a different way. Hence the title of her blog -

Purple Glass Jug still life

Today I am posting a painting that I did at a workshop on Monday 11/10/08. I worked with Luke Randall as the teacher. It was a intensive all day workshop from 9 AM to 4PM. It is a still life with a purple glass jug in it. I found it a challenge since I had never attempted to paint glass before. I feel good about the attempt but do not consider this a finished painting just a study.

Dinner Time

Last night I started a large painting 24"x18" from a photo I took when I went on a workshop on Monhegan Island last June. The painting when I finish, is going to be of Gulls feeding. I and my painting group went to a small lobster place. The type that I love where you sit on picnic benches to eat outside next to the ocean. While I was painting near this place a girl came out and dumped a bunch of shells on a rocky area and in minutes 20 or more gulls appeared to devourer the shells and what was left on them. It was a frenzy. My painting is mild compaired to the actual scene. I will post the finished painting soon. I hope to work on it tonight during the election results.
Sorry for the bad photo with my easel top included.

Three Gala Apples

Today I want to post a small 5"x7" painting I did of some Gala apples. One of them is sitting on a piece of depression glass. I enjoy collecting green dessert plates from that era. The napkin they are sitting on is from my Mother's collection of linens.

Dia de Mertos

Today I decided to post a collage that I did for a collage show at Wickford in September '08 in honor of Dia de Mertos. It is made of copies of photos of my Mother Dolores, Aunt Roberta, my Grandmother Loretta & Grandfather Raymond. My Mother pasted away back in 2007 and my Father in February of 2008 so I felt like doing something in honor. I think it is a bit sad with the falling leaves. It reminds me of the passing of time.

Wickford, RI Harbor

This post is a plien air work I did on a very chilly day in early October with my painting group. I am not satisfied with the outcome but will post it anyway as one of my learning experiences.

Jerusalem, Rhode Island Marsh

I have been encouraged by a cyber friend, Patty Walsh http://pattywalsh.blogspot.com to show more of my work. This is a plein air work painted at Jerusalem, Rhode Island looking towards the small fishing port of Galilee. I love the biblical names that were chosen for these two areas. It was an overcast morning in the summer which turned into the most glorious day. One of the great challenges of working outside is when the light changes. Someday I will get the hang of it.

Seapowet Marshes

These two paintings I am posting are ones that I did when I painted near the Seapowet Marshes in Tiverton, Rhode Island. The leaves were not turning yet during this session but the marshes were showing signs of Fall with browns and yellows.
