Just Onions

I just finished this painting. It's going into a show at the Spring Bull Gallery in Newport RI. at the end of January. The show is titled "Fakes and Forgeries". I chose to represent a painting done originally by William Merritt Chase. The title of the painting is "Just Onions". A bit of a joke because it looks like an orange has snuck in.

Hi there Jo Ann. What a fantastic idea for a show and your painting is absolutely stunning. You've got a lovely luscious painty feeling to this one. I don't know the original - will have to google him.

Oh, this is the first time in 4 years I WON'T be doing the Fakes & Forgeries! I do love it but am committed to not competing this winter. I like this piece. Funny, I just emailed you a note after you left a comment on my blog, and when I hit 'send' it automatically went to Nancy Hartley! I couldn't find your email address, soooo.. Thanks for your wise advice!

Thanks Patty, I enjoyed painting it. I found the original in a book I got from the library on Chase. It was a small black and white photo in the back of the book. Something made me google it. I loved the colors and exuberant brush strokes he used.
